A BRIEF HISTORY - 23 years of experience in film post-production.
HISTORY, phase 1
At the outset, there was Arane, a company created by Jean-René Failliot in 1976 which specialized in optical effects and the creation of film titles and credits in 16mm film.
In 1978, Arane moved next-door to the Telcipro Laboratory which had just opened in Levallois-Perret near Paris. The ensuing partnership helped Arane to quickly establish itself in the marketplace and develop its operations in Super16 and 35mm film. One of Arane's specialties became size-conversion (reducing, blowing up, anamorphic squeezes).
In 1985, the directors of Arane looked to expand the company's activities into large format work (65/70mm). This represented a natural extension of the company's interests and know-how. The opening of La Géode in Paris and the success of Futuroscope in Poitiers seemed to confirm the good timing of Arane's choice. However, the dream took ten years to become reality.
In June 1995, the division GULLIVER came into being as the first laboratory for all 65/70mm formats in France. Gulliver began with two Bell & Howell Model C continuous contact printers, two 65mm optical conversion printers (blow up and reduction) and a custom 70mm positive processor.
In August 1998, GULLIVER added a new Photomec 65mm negative processor, and in November 1999, a Bell and Howell continuous contact dry/wet 65/70 "panel" printer, enabling them to provide complete large format production and post-production services.
GULLIVER has developed its range of services on the basis of meticulous planning and efficient investments. This has allowed for total control over the growth of their operations, and has eliminated the need to rely on outside production units or subcontractors. As a result, every facet of Gulliver's operation is stamped with their unique company ethos… applying the skill and attention of craftspeople to the precision demanded by 65/70mm processing and post.
With over 20 years experience in traditional cinematography, and following a 5-year development period for 65/70mm services, GULLIVER is uniquely qualified to bring to the international marketplace a reliable, high-quality alternative for 65/70mm processing and production. Their experience, coupled with production supervision and quality control services in partnership with Lynbrook Productions - makes GULLIVER Europe's premiere, and only "one stop 65mm shop".
HISTORY, phase 2
Since the start of 2000, GULLIVER has helped facilitate an unprecedented expansion in European-based large format film production and post-production. During Summer 2000, 4 large format features, 1 large format "featurette" (20 minute film), and 1 large format trailer were processed simultaneously at the lab. Over half a million feet of film passed through the lab during this busy season, establishing GULLIVER as a reliable provider of complete large format production services.
This expansion of services has necessitated and facilitated the design and construction of an entirely new facility, which GULLIVER relocated to during September/October 2000. This state-of-the-art facility, three times the size of its predecessor, will allow GULLIVER to add a second 70mm processor for up-coming release printing of large format titles, complete 35mm procesing and printing services, comprehensive and up-to-date color timing services, 70/8p and 70/5p on-site projection.
